Xiaomi EV’s Upcoming Technology Launch

Xiaomi EV's Upcoming Technology Launch

The Xiaomi CEO stated that the event will focus solely on technology and not merchandise, which suggests that the official release of the Xiaomi SU7 may still be some time off.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi EV, which makes cars, revealed today on Weibo that it will have a technological launch event on December 28 at 2:00 pm Beijing time.

The first announcement from Xiaomi EV’s official Weibo account, which was only launched last night, is this one. As of the now, Xiaomi EV has 68,000 Weibo followers.

It is important to note that Lei Jun, the chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, stated on Weibo that the launch will solely focus on technology and not products.

Prior rumors—which were later refuted—suggested that Xiaomi will introduce the SU7, its first electric vehicle, on December 28.

When a new model of automobile is officially launched, numerous car companies routinely host multiple events, unlike smartphone launches which normally just have one launch event.

A technology launch normally happens first, then a pre-sale launch, and lastly the formal launch. In the months preceding its formal launch, this strategy helps a new model generate greater attention, which helps increase initial orders.

According to a prior filing, Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle is a mid-to-large sedan with dimensions of 4,997 mm by 1,963 mm by 1,440/1,455 mm with a 3,000 mm wheelbase.

That size is more than the Model 3 car from Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and the ET5 from Nio (NYSE: NIO).

The upgraded Model 3 is now available for purchase in China. Its dimensions are 4,720 mm in length, 1,848 mm in width, 1,442 mm in height, and 2,875 mm in wheelbase. The standard ET5 has a wheelbase of 2,888 mm and dimensions of 4,790 mm by 1,960 mm by 1,499 mm.

Chinese power battery titans BYD and CATL, respectively, provide battery packs for the Xiaomi SU7 with capacities of 73.6 kWh and 101 kWh.

While the 101-kWh pack offers range options of 750 and 800 kilometers, the 73.6-kWh pack offers two CLTC ranges of 628 and 668 kilometers, respectively.

With great expectations for its debut model, Xiaomi’s Lei stated earlier this month in a CCTV interview that he entered the auto industry intending to succeed.
