The budget-friendly “Moto G” phone from Motorola will go on sale in 2024. You can choose between the “Moto G 5G 2024” and the “Moto G Power 5G 2024” variants now. Although the Moto G 2024 Power variant costs $299.99, the regular model costs $199.99.
The Moto G’s base model’s specifications are disorganized.has a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and a 6.6-inch, 120 Hz, 1612 x 720 LCD with a high refresh rate but low resolution. The phone boasts a massive 5000 mAh battery with 18 W wired charging, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Numerous extras are included, like a microSD slot, a side fingerprint scanner, NFC (!), and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, a 6 nm semiconductor with two Cortex A78 CPUs and six A55 CPUs, is about as affordable a chip as you can get from Qualcomm.
The Moto G base model has two cameras on its back: a 2MP “macro” sensor for aesthetic purposes and a 50MP rear sensor. There is an 8MP front camera.
Despite having identical names, the 2024 Moto G and Moto G Power have very few elements in common. The MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, 6.7-inch, 120 Hz, 2400×1080 LCD, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 5000 mAh battery are all included in the Power variant. The MediaTek processor, which has six A55 and two Cortex A78 CPUs on a 6 nm process, is similar to the Qualcomm chip. Only the quicker 30 W charging and the unexpected addition of 15 W wireless charging make the “Power” moniker justifiable. It uses the same 11-year-old Wi-Fi standard and comes with all the same accessories as the base model. There are two cameras: a 16MP sensor in front and an 8MP macro in the back.
Both phones have essentially identical designs, featuring asymmetrical bezels with a larger bottom half, flat sides, and flat front panels. The rear surfaces include a “vegan leather” treatment, which essentially applies a plastic coating to resemble leather. Although they are not waterproof, Motorola claims that they are “splash resistant.” Both phones alert you to the possibility that, depending on your carrier and area, you could not receive a full-power charger in the package.
The majority of pre-paid budget carriers will carry both phones, and unlocked versions will also be offered on Amazon, Motorola.com, and Best Buy. With “subsequent availability” at other carriers, the Power model will launch on Cricket on March 22. Unlocked sales will begin on March 29. Sales of the base model begin on March 21, however sales of the unlocked model won’t begin until May 2.
