Why Sandra Bullock is lifting the ban on the movie sequel
About ten years ago, Sandra Bullock vowed that she would never again make a sequel to one of her many memorable films.
It was 2013, the year she and Melissa McCarthy released the buddy cop comedy “The Heat” – which grossed nearly $ 230 million at the worldwide box office. During the awards ceremony for “Gravity” that same year, the press repeatedly asked if she would return for another film with McCarthy.
“I’m not doing a sequel to ‘The Heat,'” she said at the time. “I have done two sequels. It was horrible. What Melissa and I had was beautiful. We can do another movie together. I think we should make a silent film together. “
Film fans and social media users added dots and predicted two “horror” sequels to Bullock: a follow-up to her star-making “Speed” movie, which grossed only one-third of the original domestic box office; And “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous” (although fans have worked hard for a two-hander with Regina King).
On the grounds of the SXSW Film Festival with the new film “The Lost City”, however, Bullock told Variety that she was ready to reconsider her position.
“I had a ‘no sequel’ rule when I had no advantage in fighting for what I really wanted. I feel like, in my old age, I’m learning to fight for what looks best on screen – and I don’t care who gets away from the meeting in anger, “Bell said.
She credits her evolution to her creative partner Liza Chassin, who helped mount “The Lost City.”
Bullock called it “the beauty of working with Liza.” We are type A. We know each other from the beginning. We both take seriously what we do. Sitting next to her co-star Daniel Radcliffe, the actor-producer said that if the script was right, it would be open for a “Lost City” sequel.
“I don’t know if I want a sequel, but look – we had Dana Fox as the writer. If Dana Fox could come up with something out of the ordinary, then they should go.
Bullock reported in late December that her original Netflix movie “The Unforgiven” had become the second most cracked title in Streimer’s top 10 most-watched movies ever, and she was anointed as Netflix Queen. We asked if it came with some benefits.
“The advantage of Netflix is that hey let me work and they let me choose stuff that would never reach the theaters,” she said.
Radcliffe asked if Milestone had offered her a free Netflix subscription.
“No! I have a small yeti cup that keeps my coffee hot. But I think you are right, I think part of our agreement should be that all our memberships should be free, including children, “she said.
