One year after presenting its eVX-based Urban SUV concept, Toyota has now presented the production-ready Urban Cruiser EV. Despite being smaller than the idea, the final model shares many design elements with the Suzuki e Vitara, which will be sold under the Maruti Suzuki brand in India. The Urban Cruiser EV introduces production-specific modifications while retaining aspects of its concept.
The Urban Cruiser EV has more subdued design characteristics and is slightly shorter than its concept predecessor. Despite being thinner than those of normal SUVs, the grille and headlamps are marginally bigger than those of the idea. Black cladding and optional 18- or 19-inch aero wheels draw attention to its SUV appearance. The EV’s rear features a more sophisticated take on the concept’s spoiler and tail lights. It has a black roof and a range of colors, including dual-tone variants. It is marginally bigger than the e Vitara, measuring 4,285 mm in length and 2,700 mm in wheelbase.
Lithium-iron phosphate batteries with 49 kWh and 61 kWh capacity are available as powertrain choices. The larger battery version produces 174 horsepower and 189 Nm, whereas those with the smaller battery have a front motor that produces 144 horsepower and 189 Nm. With the addition of a rear motor, the 61kWh battery-powered all-wheel-drive variant produces 184 horsepower and 300 Nm. For off-road capabilities, the AWD variant additionally has Trail Mode and hill-descent control.
The Urban Cruiser EV’s interior, which includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster, is mostly modeled after the e Vitara. High-end technologies including wireless charging, connected car technology, and an automated parking brake are included in the cabin. A sunroof, a JBL sound system, and sliding, reclining rear seats with a 40:20:40 split-folding capability are included on top versions.
Advanced safety features including a 360-degree camera and ADAS, which includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance, are available in the EV. It is anticipated that all variations would come equipped with six airbags, guaranteeing a high level of safety.
With UK pricing to be announced in late 2025, the Urban Cruiser EV is scheduled to make its premiere at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show in January. Later that year, availability in India is anticipated.
