Threads Receives in-app Gestures, and Instagram Launches New DM Tools
On Monday, Meta announced upgrades for both the Instagram and Threads applications, following last week’s update to Instagram that included a new Lock Screen widget. Regarding Instagram, Meta has given users access to new direct message options. Regarding Threads, additional gestures for speedy interactions are being added to the program.
Threads and Instagram are Receiving New Features
Instagram users will now get access to new direct messaging options, as announced by Meta on Monday. This includes the ability to move messages to the top of the inbox and edit them for up to fifteen minutes after sending them. In addition, users may save their preferred stickers, select from a variety of chat styles, and disable read receipts for direct conversations.
A select few users had access to these features already. Meta is now providing these to all people worldwide. According to the company, the new capabilities allow customers more control over their messaging experience and enable them to “better connect with friends.”
Not every Meta platform, meanwhile, is receiving new features these days, like Instagram. With the most recent update, users may now swiftly like or hide posts using gestures in the Threads app. To show interest, swipe left; to hide, swipe right. But remember, these new motions are limited to the For You tab. It’s unclear if gestures will eventually be applied to other app sections.
In a more recent revelation, it was revealed that Instagram has also been testing an App Clip, which would allow users to access the Reels short video platform without using the Instagram app. A Lock Screen widget that allows you to instantly access the Story Camera was added to the Instagram app for iOS a few days ago.
The App Store offers the Instagram and Threads apps for free download. To use the new features, make sure you download the most recent versions of the applications.
