The revised Model 3 Performance, which makes use of Tesla’s “latest manufacturing and engineering capabilities,” has been revealed. The outcome is a “perfect, high-performance daily driver,” according to the manufacturer.
Right out of the gate, the vehicle has a new performance drive unit that increases peak power by 32% and continuous power by 22%. Peak torque increases by 16% as well, with a 2% decrease in energy usage.
546 lb-ft (741 Nm) of torque and 510 horsepower (380 kW / 517 PS) are the outputs of the dual-motor all-wheel drive system. This lets the car accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 96 km/h) in 2.9 seconds. But the business pointed out that’s “with rollout subtracted.”
Additionally, Tesla states that the Performance Model 3 can reach a top speed of 163 mph (262 km/h) and has a 296 mile (476 km) driving range.
Besides the upgraded powertrain, Tesla said they “built a more capable, performance-oriented chassis.” The company didn’t go into many specifics, but said the car has been equipped with bespoke components that reduce mass and improve stiffness. Among the highlights are “adaptive dampers with hollow damper piston rods, [a] multi-sectioned stabilizer bar, ultra-high strength steel springs, and stiffer suspension top mounts.”
The three settings of the adaptive dampers are Standard, Sport, and Track, and they modify in real-time. With regard to the latter, Track Mode has been upgraded and now “integrates Tesla’s Vehicle Dynamics Controller, motor controls, suspension controls, and powertrain cooling under a single, unified system.”
According to the business, this results in a driving experience that is more accurate and predictable. Additionally, Tesla changed the stability control settings to give drivers more latitude in pushing the car to its limits.
Additional highlights include staggered 20-inch wheels with Tesla-specific Pirelli P Zero 4 performance tires, a more rear-biased torque distribution, and newly standard “track-ready” brake pads. The latter offer a smoother ride and reduced rolling resistance, among other advantages.
Aside from its performance capabilities, the automobile sports a new design that is similar to the base model. Sportier bumpers, an aggressive diffuser, a new front splitter, and a redesigned spoiler are all part of the makeover for the Model 3 Performance.
These modifications enhance the car’s aerodynamics in addition to its appearance. Tesla claims that while lift has decreased by 36%, drag has decreased by 5%.
Interior updates for the Model 3 Performance include new sport seats with better bolstering and a “deeper, more engaging seating position.” They also have warmth and ventilation in addition to a 12-way power adjustment feature.
In addition to the revised seats, acoustic glass, better body baffles, and sealing should make the cabin quieter and more comfortable. For improved noise isolation, Tesla claims that this is a component of an end-to-end NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) treatment.
Additionally, a 17-speaker audio system and carbon fiber trim are available to buyers. A 15.4-inch infotainment system and an 8-inch display for passengers in the backseat join them.
Orders for the Tesla Model 3 Performance can be placed right now, with delivery starting in May or June. The starting price is $52,990 plus a destination fee of $1,390. It’s important to remember that the model qualifies for a $7,500 federal tax credit.
