Earlier this year, 9to5Mac discovered that Apple was working to rebrand iTunes Pass as an “Apple Account Card” in the Wallet app with iOS 15.5. Although this feature is not mentioned in the official release notes for iOS 15.5, the Apple Account Card is now live and available to users running the latest version of the operating system.
The Apple account card replaces the iTunes Pass, a pass that users can add to the Wallet app to check their Apple ID balance. The pass contained a QR code that allowed customers to purchase products at the Apple Retail Store.
Now, instead of a pass, customers can use their Apple ID balance as a regular Apple Pay card with an Apple account card. That way, instead of showing the QR code when making a purchase in the Apple Store, the user can complete the purchase using Apple Pay. Of course, the balance can also be used to purchase apps and movies and subscribe to Apple services.
Another advantage of Apple Account Card is that it is now easier to access Apple ID balance. While the iTunes Pass was required to be manually added to the Wallet app via the App Store, the Apple account card appears almost automatically in the Wallet app. All you have to do is tap the “+” button and then complete the setup by tapping on “Add Apple Account”.
One thing to keep in mind is that the card only appears to users who have some balance in their Apple ID.
This feature seems to be slowly being rolled out to users running iOS 15.5. Could you add your Apple account card to the Wallet app? Let us know in the comments below.
