Tens of Millions of Dollars will be Spent on Upgrades at Major Airports in New England
A roughly $1 billion federal plan to fortify the country’s aviation infrastructure calls for upgrades to control towers, gates, and mechanical systems at three of the largest airports in New England.
The Logan International Airport in Boston will receive the largest of the New England funds. According to records from the Federal Aviation Administration, the airport will get $12 million for a two-phase project to enlarge and renovate an existing traffic control tower.
$5.4 million will be given to Bradley International Airport, which is located close to Hartford, Connecticut, to help with renovations and expansion of the terminal. According to the government, Portland International Jetport in Maine will get $10.4 million to create new passenger boarding bridges and perform other upgrades.
The federal funds will be distributed to 114 airports nationwide. There are also plans for upgrades at a few smaller airports in New England.The capital city of New Hampshire, Concord Municipal Airport, would get more than $2.5 million to construct a new terminal building and demolish the older, more than 80-year-old one.
