More than 116,000 Mercedes-Benz Cars are Being Recalled

Because of a ground connection under the passenger seat that “may have become loose” and “increase the risk of a fire,” Mercedes-Benz is recalling over 116,000 cars, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

It’s possible that the ground cable lug on the recalled devices isn’t properly fastened. Potentially high electrical currents passing via this connection could raise the local temperature to dangerous levels, raising the possibility of a fire.

The following vehicle models are included in the recall, according to the NHTSA:

  • 2019-2023 GLS450
  • 2020-2023 GLE580
  • 2020-2023 GLS580
  • 2020-2024 GLE450
  • 2021-2023 AMG GLS63
  • 2021-2023 MAYBACH GLS600
  • 2021-2024 AMG GLE53
  • 2021-2024 AMG GLE63 S
  • 2023-2024 GLE350

Take your recalled Mercedes-Benz car to a Mercedes-Benz dealership, and they’ll check the ground connection. The connection will be patched for free if needed. You can get further information by calling 1-800-367-6372 for MBUSA customer care, 1-800-424-9153 for the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline, or by visiting www.nhtsa.gov.

By May 14, recall letters alerting Mercedes-Benz owners to the connection issue will be issued out.
