“Moana 2” Breaks the Record for the Most Watched Trailer in Disney Animation and Pixar History
This week, in its first 24 hours, 178 million people watched the movie trailer for Moana, which is produced by Disney Animation.
The highest number of trailer views for Disney Animation was Frozen 2 (116 million), while the previous record for Pixar was Inside Out 2 (157 million). Additionally, the Moana 2 teaser outperformed Pixar’s Incredibles 2 (113 million).
The Inside Out 2 movie, which hits theaters on June 14, will come before the Moana 2 trailer. The forthcoming Pixar sequel is estimated to debut between $80 and $85 million, although one service predicts it will surpass $90 million. Positive news for Disney’s animation empire comes from both flicks.
Nov. 27 marks the release of Moana 2, which brings voice talents Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson back together.
The animated film, which is centered on Moana going out on an unexpected voyage in long-lost waters after receiving a summons from her ancestors, was directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller. Johnson plays the god Maui once more.
Before being revised as a theatrical sequel, the project was first created as a television series. Moana 2, which features new songs by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, is produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino.
The live-action Moana version directed by Thomas Kail, which is scheduled to hit theaters on July 10, 2026, is likewise a production of Disney and Johnson.
Moana’s ongoing appeal is demonstrated by the fact that, according to Nielsen, the 2016 release of the picture, which brought in over $687 million worldwide, was the most streamed movie of all time across all platforms in 2023.
