Mitsubishi Motors Set to Launch Minicab EV, a Kei-Car Class Electric Commercial Vehicle in Japan
Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has declared that on December 21, sales affiliates across Japan will begin offering the new Minicab EV, an electric commercial vehicle in the kei-car class with a monobox design. The cost of the two-seat Minicab EV is 2,431,000 yen, while the four-seat model costs 2,486,000 yen (consumption tax included).
The Minicab-MiEV, which has sold about 13,000 units over the previous 12 years, serves as the model for the new EV. To better serve the demands of business customers, the new Minicab EV delivers an expanded cruising range together with improved safety and convenience features, all thanks to the knowledge and experience accumulated during the development and maintenance of the Minicab-MiEV.
Mitsubishi Motors will help reduce CO2 emissions in the last mile of commercial use with the new Minicab EV in response to the accelerating decarbonization efforts aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, as well as the growing demand for kei-car class electric commercial vehicles from the logistics industry and government agencies.
Product summary
With its monobox design and new generation of electric components, such as the motor and drive battery, the Minicab EV is an electric commercial vehicle in the kei-car class. With the addition of WLTC mode, the cruising range has been increased to 180 km (per charge), a about 35% improvement over the previous model. To ensure that the battery is fully charged and ready for use when work resumes the next day, charge it after work. A standard charging at AC200V (15A) takes about 7.5 hours to complete. Furthermore, rapid charging allows for the battery to be charged to up to 80% capacity in just 42 minutes.
With a maximum torque of 195 Nm produced instantaneously by the new electric motor, the car maintains its distinctively powerful and smooth driving characteristics even when it is fully loaded with freight, making for a snappy and stress-free ride. In addition, for improved quietness, the new motor and inverter have been combined into a single unit, enabling users to drive late at night or early in the morning without worrying about upsetting other people. While the cruising range and safety features have been increased, the price has remained the same as the previous model.
