The German luxury automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is prepared to introduce its priciest electric vehicle in India at the beginning of the new year. On January 9 of next year, the G-Wagon electric SUV—which is based on the premium G-Class SUV—will be on sale. Earlier this year in Las Vegas, the EQG concept of the G-Wagon electric SUV made its debut at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). The car will utilize the ladder-frame chassis and is based on the SUV’s G 580 version.
Mercedes-Benz started reservations for the electrified G-Wagon SUV in July of last year. The Completely-Built Unit (CBU) route, which refers to a fully imported unit, is how it will reach India. Mercedes is likely to introduce the electric G-Class SUV in limited quantities or would restrict the number of units that go on sale annually in India, given that its prices are anticipated to be at least 3 crore.
Mercedes G-Wagon electric: battery and range
A 116kWh battery pack will power the electric G-Wagon SUV. An electric SUV’s battery can receive up to 200kW of charging power. Essentially, this means that the EV may be charged from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes. Additionally, it is anticipated that the battery would work with a reduced 11kW charging capacity. With just one charge, it will have a range of over 470 kilometers.
Features of the Mercedes electric G-Class
The electric G-Class, the priciest model in the premium electric SUV market, is expected to have every creature comfort a person could want. In addition to the carmaker’s own linked app, ADAS technology, 360-degree camera, Burmester sound system, rear-passenger entertainment screens, and more, there will be a dual-screen 12.3-inch infotainment system and driver display that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Performance of the Mercedes electric G-Class
In keeping with its heritage as a sports car, the electric G-Class will be propelled by four electric motors and the manufacturer’s all-wheel-drive system. Each wheel will be powered by a separate electric motor, producing an incredible 579 horsepower and a staggering 1,164 Nm of peak torque. Although it won’t be incredibly fast, it can reach 100 kmph from zero in less than five seconds, and its top speed is electronically regulated at 180 kmph.
Anticipated cost of the Mercedes electric G-Class
The G-Class SUV is sold in India by the German automaker for more than ₹2.50 crore. In European countries, the electric G-Class SUV has already been introduced with a starting price of 1.422 lakh euros, or around 1.29 crore rupees. This electric SUV, however, is probably going to be imported into India and will cost a lot more after taxes. When the electric G-Class is introduced in India, it should cost close to 3 crore.
