Marvel announces the Stan Lee documentary will be available on Disney+ in 2023 on his 100th birthday
On Wednesday, Marvel Entertainment tweeted a 25-second video announcing the 2023 release of a Disney+ Stan Lee documentary. The announcement comes at a time when the late comic book creator would have turned 100.
“100 years of dreaming. 100 years of creating. 100 years of Stan Lee,” Marvel Entertainment wrote in a caption that accompanied the teaser. “Stan Lee, an Original documentary, is streaming 2023 on @DisneyPlus.”
A few brief glimpses of Stan Lee’s film roles and guest appearances can be seen in the recently released video. A gradual zoom-out that reveals an illustration of the multifaceted creator rounds out the celebratory montage.
Lee is best known for his work on beloved characters like Spider-Man, the Hulk, Iron Man, the X-Men, and others, which he collaborated on with fellow writers and artists like Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby. Indeed, even subsequent to resigning from Wonder during the 1990s, Lee kept on remaining engaged with the organization through appearance appearances and chief maker titles on Wonder creations.
Genius Brands International launched a new online store featuring three exclusive Lee-branded collections as part of Celebration of Lee’s centennial earlier this month. The entertainment company has been signed on to co-executive produce the “Stan Lee” documentary and owns the rights to Lee’s name, voice, likeness, signature, and licensing of intellectual property.
“100 years ago, Stan was born in NYC. Over the last century, his work changed the pop culture landscape & influenced millions,” reads a post from the official Stan Lee Twitter account, which is kept in use by POW! Entertainment. “At LA Comic Con, fans left messages for Stan’s centennial. Inspiration. Legend. Hero. These are some of the words that came up again & again. #StanLee100.”
“Happy 100th Birthday to Stan Lee,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn wrote on Twitter. “You are missed, my friend. #StanLee100“
