“Karate Kid” is Being Pushed Back to May 2025 by Sony; “Kraven the Hunter” is Scheduled for Release in December
December 13, 2024 is the new release date for Sony’s “Kraven the Hunter,” which was originally scheduled to debut in August. Premium large formats and IMAX theaters will screen it.
Originally scheduled for May 30, 2025, the film replaces “Karate Kid’s” original release date. After “Cobra Kai’s” sixth and final season premieres on Netflix, it will now have its theatrical debut.
With a highly anticipated Christmas release date available, Sony is promoting “Kraven” as an R-rated choice for the year’s finish.
“Kraven the Hunter,” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, explores the background of the Marvel villain prior to his well-known grudge against Spider-Man. Russell Crowe, Fred Hechinger, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola, and Ariana DeBose also feature.
J.C. Chandor is the director, and Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway wrote the script and story for the movie. David Householter, Matt Tolmach, and Avi Arad are the producers.

Additionally, Sony has added Blumhouse and Columbia Pictures’ “They Listen” to the release schedule, putting it on August 30, 2024, which was originally scheduled for “Kraven.” Alongside David Dastmalchian and Keith Carradine, the picture stars John Cho, Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose Liu, and Lukita Maxwell. Chris Weitz is the director and writer, and Jason Blum, Chris Weitz, and Andrew Miano are the producers. Beatriz Sequeira, Paul O. Davis, Dan Balgoyen, and Britta Rowings are the executive producers.
Ben Wang will play the title role in Sony’s “Karate Kid,” which also stars Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, Wyatt Oleff, and Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, two performers who are returning to the franchise. Rob Lieber wrote the screenplay, which was directed by Jonathan Entwistle. Karen Rosenfelt served as producer.
The release date of “Animal Friends” by Legendary Entertainment has likewise been set for August 15, 2025. Film stars Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Lil Rel Howery, Addison Rae, and Ellie Bamber. Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider wrote both live-action and animated characters for the movie. The R-rated road trip adventure is directed by Peter Atencio, an Emmy Award winner.
