Kalokuma Design was founded in 2015 by Maki Amano, the founder of the brand Kalokuma Design. The company is headquartered in Japan. Apart from offering custom dresses Kalokuma Design also offers services like production, model shooting, hair, and makeup.
In a conversation with Maki Amano, he said, “I liked dressmaking since I was a child, and the origin was that I made an anime character costume for my younger sister. After that, my daughter was born, and I started making it in earnest.”
Maki Amano started dressmaking on an order-to-order basis till 2021. All the full-fledged brand activities started in 2022. In 2022, Maki Amano participated in four fashion shows in Japan and did 12 photo sessions for the original costume, and to everyone’s surprise, all costumes were sold out.
Next year will be a special year for the company, the brand will be participating in overseas fashion shows.
Currently, Maki Amano does all the work by himself however in 2023 the company will be hiring employees to expand the business to adult size.
Maki Amano dreams of his brand Kalokuma Design to make it a one-stop solution for designing stage, movie costumes, and school uniforms.
