Born in Colombia, Sara Calixto is a celebrated model and social media influencer with over two million followers on her platforms. In addition, she is a top entrepreneur and avid fashion enthusiast. She is looking to launch her lingerie brand in a couple of months.
From a young age, Sara had a dream, a dream to be in the fashion industry. She says growing up; she would often watch modelling and fashion shows. With a determined heart, she set out in pursuit of her dream.
According to Sara, the best thing about following your passion is that you can never get bored or easily discouraged by other people’s opinions. Just like any other industry, the competition in the fashion industry is stiff, making it hard to penetrate. At the start of your career, very few people will believe you while others will try to discourage you, says Sara. Through perseverance, hard work, and determination, Sara started her career as a fashion student in New York, which started her rise to fame. Later, she moved to Italy to further her studies in fashion.
While in Italy, Sara started posting on Instagram, and within no time, her Instagram account went from 100,000 followers to almost one million followers. During this time, she was also contacted by Suicide Girls, among other brands, and was now more active on the platform. Overwhelmed by the tremendous response, Sara continued to expand on her brand and interact with her audience. She now streams on Twitch and connects with her audience through playing video games or chatting.
What most people don’t tell you about following your passion is how daunting it is, says Sara. Along the way, Sara says she has encountered many challenges, but that has never stopped her from following her passion. Sara has always been bold and diverse with her ideas. When faced with a challenge, Sara finds a way to turn that into a stepping stone. She says it doesn’t matter how many times you fail, but the courage to press on after failure is what counts the most.
Her advice to young people and upcoming models is to never give up on their dreams and practise patience. For those who are using social media platforms, she insists on not focusing on hateful comments. She says some people will always want to bring you down. The best way to deal with the social media bullies is to not pay attention to them.
Looking back at how far she has come, Sara is not only proud of her immense success but also her courage and boldness in following her dream. With her new lingerie brand on the way, her journey is far from over.
