Honda Civic RS Makes Its Debut In Japan Featuring A Manual Transmission And Sharper Chassis
Honda debuted the revised Civic in the Japanese market, along with the new RS model that comes with a six-speed manual transmission, rev-matching, and a sportier suspension arrangement.
The Honda Civic RS concept from the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon has the exact same visuals as the production model. All models in the range have a new bumper, but the RS stands apart from the e:HEV with its unique emblems, darker trim, black 18-inch wheels, and functioning tailpipes at the back.
In contrast to the US-spec Honda Civic Si, which is only offered as a sedan, the Japanese Civic RS is designed as a five-door hatchback.
Authentic accessories from the Honda Access catalog can enhance the hot hatch’s appearance even more. The prominent feature is a big wing that looks a lot like the Civic Type R, but owners can also opt for a more understated ducktail spoiler. Additional choices include sporty grille and lower bumper intake garnishes, as well as aerodynamic bumper extensions.
Honda designers included red inlays into the door cards and dashboard to contrast with the interior’s darkly themed fabric. More significantly, the Honda Civic RS is the only trim available with a six-speed manual transmission in the Japanese market; all other trims in the lineup come with a CVT.
The 1.5-liter VTEC turbocharged engine comes standard with a manual transmission. To increase the Civic RS’s appeal, the manufacturer included a rev-matching system and a sportier suspension.
The LX and EX versions of the Honda Civic are now part of the updated lineup in Japan. These come with the more efficient “Sports e:HEV” self-charging hybrid drivetrain or the turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine.
The market launch of the updated Honda Civic in Japan is scheduled for September 2024.
