Google Improves 2FA Prompt for Account Login

Google’s “Google Prompt” tool now has an additional degree of verification, which increases account security. Even if someone has multiple devices, this update seeks to make it more difficult for illegal access.

Google has continuously made security improvements to protect user accounts. They have implemented safeguards for user data throughout time, such as safe zone designations and two-factor authentication. This most recent version of Google Prompt strengthens that dedication by introducing an additional degree of security, guaranteeing that only the legitimate owner is granted access, particularly when logging in from a different device or carrying out important tasks.

The Google Prompt is the brief alert that appears on your phone when you log into your Google account on a different device, such as a computer, smart TV, or even a new phone. It asks, “Are you trying to sign in?” It’s an easy way to prove who you are. You simply tap “Yes” or “No,” and you’re done most of the time. Google is now introducing a second step, though.

Previously, simply tapping “Yes” on the Google Prompt was usually enough. But now that you’ve chosen “Yes, it’s me,” you’ll be asked to confirm your identity using an extra security feature. Depending on the security settings you have enabled on your phone, this may entail entering your PIN, using your fingerprint, or utilizing facial recognition. By adding this extra step, security is improved and even if someone manages to access your phone and sees the first question, they will still be unable to access your account without your PIN or biometric information.

Although it may take a few days for everyone to receive the update, this change is being rolled out via an update to Google Play Services on Android (version 25.02.34) and the Google app or Gmail on iOS.
