Google Drive now has a new feature that will make it simpler for users to browse through videos. The most recent update allows users to view and search transcripts within videos, expanding on the automatic captions feature that was introduced last year. It’s noteworthy that all Google Drive users are now able to utilize this function.
As stated in the Report The goal of this improvement is to increase accessibility by making it easier for users to find particular moments in a video. Videos are automatically captioned when they are uploaded thanks to this feature (workspace admins can change the setting to allow caption generation only when requested).
How the Feature Works
Transcripts can be viewed in a right-hand side panel while a video is playing on Google Drive. Timestamps are used in the transcription to separate speech into distinct sentences. To locate the precise time stamp, users can either search for particular words or browse through the transcriptions. Finding pertinent information is made easier by the ability to click on a sentence to cause the video to jump to that precise point.
Google Drive, this most recent addition is expected to boost productivity for both professionals and students.
In order to utilize the feature, users must first make sure that automatic captions are turned on for the video. Users should confirm that automatic captions are available for the selected video. A CC button located in the video player’s lower right corner can be used to verify this. Tapping the “Transcript” option that appears after selecting the settings icon will bring up the side panel.
The most recent update improves user experience by offering a structured breakdown of video content and overcomes this limitation by displaying transcripts in a separate side panel.
