The main feature added to the base Fenix 8 is the AMOLED display. Garmin has retained the memory-in-pixel (MIP) display with solar charging for the Fenix 8 Solar variant, though, for those who value a longer battery life.

The AMOLED-screen Fenix 8 also has a smaller 43mm variant. Both models are available in 47mm and 51mm sizes. With a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, the 1.4-inch display on the AMOLED model is marginally larger and sharper.

On the other hand, the Solar Edition sports a 1.3-inch MIP screen with a resolution of 260 × 260 pixels. It also has a somewhat thicker profile (15.2 mm) than the 13.7–14.7 mm of the normal Fenix 8.

Along with a built-in flashlight, all smartwatches now come equipped with a built-in speaker and microphone enabling rudimentary voice assistant interaction and voice note recording.

The Fenix 8 series also has compatibility for QZSS and BEIDOU worldwide navigation systems, specialized strength training catered to particular sports, and Garmin Share for data sharing across devices.

The Fenix 8 has even been tested to military standards for durability, and Garmin has added a sensor protection and leakproof buttons. The watch has new scuba diving and apnea modes and is water-resistant up to 40 meters.

The Fenix 8 models carry on the Fenix line’s reputation for long battery life. In smartwatch mode, the normal model lasts up to 16 days; the solar model prolongs it by five days.

Cost and Availability

In terms of price, the Garmin Fenix 8 starts at a hefty $999.99, climbing to $1,199.99 for the top configuration. The Fenix 8 Solar comes in slightly higher, starting at $1,099.99 and reaching $1,199.99 for the most expensive model.
