Sonic didn’t win the “console war”, but as we recently charted at Polygon’s first-ever Who Wood Win Week, the long-running Sega mascot wasn’t lost either. Indeed, in 2022, Sonic is the true movie star, preparing for his big sequel this April. And for that reason, the Xbox is honoring the blue hedgehog – the kind that puts “chaos” in the Chaos Emerald.
On a blog published Tuesday morning, Microsoft unveiled a pair of custom Xbox series S and Sonic-inspired Xbox controllers and Sonic 2, the villain of Knuckles. The Xbox Series S console features “a golden portal ring on its surface with an embossed Sonic the Hedgehog 2 logo,” while the controllers are covered in fur-emulating shag carpet.
Sonic consoles and controllers may not be generally available to the public, but are offered as part of an enter-to-win sweepstakes. To access, people who need a blue, hairy Xbox controller in their life must go to the Xbox Twitter page and retweet promotional posts with the hashtag # XboxSonic2Sweepstakes or cash in Microsoft Rewards Points on raffle tickets. Participants must be a legal resident in a region that supports Xbox Live. Submissions for Sweepstakes end at 11 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, April 30th.
