The impending ROG Phone 8 has been the subject of multiple leaks and confirmations from ASUS in recent times. Even while we still don’t have a full image of the gaming-focused phone, a fresh leak that surfaced today has brought us a lot closer to learning what we need to know.
The next phone in ASUS’s ROG Phone lineup has renders, specifications, and accessories that the folks at Windows Report have their hands on. To begin with, the source suggests ASUS would switch out the Ultimate model for a Pro variant. The renders suggest that there won’t be much of a design difference between the Pro and base models. The line dividing the two-tone colors on the surface seems to be the largest difference. The line on the rear that splits the two-tone colors appears to be the lowest difference.
For years, ASUS has maintained a fairly constant design for its gaming phones; however, this time, the company may stray slightly to make the design more approachable for the typical user. Though they both still have the RGB logo, it seems like the phone is a little more understated overall. Notably, the back display of the Ultimate appears to have been removed from the Pro variant. It’s also possible that the camera bump was altered, changing from a rectangular to a more square-like form.
Lastly, it looks like there might be two colour options for the Pro and vanilla models. It appears that the Pro model offers dark grey or black, while the standard model is only available in grey or black.
Specifications of the ROG Phone 8
Both phones seem to be equipped with a Qualcomm Adreno 750 GPU and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, according to the outlet’s leaked spreadsheet. A 6.78-inch FHD+ Samsung Flexible AMOLED display, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, a 5-magnet speaker system, Wi-Fi 6/6E compatibility, and a 5,500mAh battery are further features that the two versions would have in common. It’s interesting to note that the phone’s battery would be inferior than the Phone 7’s 6,000mAh capacity.
The memory, storage, and camera categories are where the models might vary from one another. According to reports, the Pro model offers either 16GB or 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the base model is reported to contain 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The Sony IMX890 50 MP primary sensor (same lens seen in the Nothing Phone 2), 13 MP ultra wide, 32 MP lens with 3X optical zoom, and 32 MP front camera are possible camera options for the Pro. Regarding the camera configuration of the base model, nothing is known, however the renders indicate that the third camera is using a different lens.
It looks that ASUS is still offering a variety of accessories for the Phone 8, despite the device being more subdued than prior versions. It appears that there are two distinct cases: a solid black case and a clear case. The Aero Active Cooler X attachment is accommodated in the black case. The cooling device looks to be able to function as a phone stand as well.
On social media, ASUS disclosed that the ROG Phone 8 will be unveiled at CES 2024. Additionally, the manufacturer revealed on Weibel that the gadget will go on sale in China on January 16. The price of the ROG Phone 8 or 8 Pro is unknown as of right now.
