Disney and Taylor Swift are back in business, and this time it’s bigger than ever.
The superstar’s box office blockbuster Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie will make its Disney+ premiere on March 15th, according to information disclosed by Mouse House CEO Bob Iger during the company’s most recent earnings conference. For fans of Swift who value timing, the news is released the same day that Swift begins her 2024 Eras Tour with three nights of performances at Tokyo Dome in Japan.
Disney+ will be the only online destination for the concert film directed by Sam Wrench, despite the fact that an extended version of The Eras Tour has been available for rent on other streaming services for more than a month. Five additional songs from the Taylor’s Version of the Eras Tour that weren’t included in the theatrical or digital releases will be added to that. As of right now, it is unknown exactly which five new songs are included in the Disney+ Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) movie.
A mainstay of Swift’s $1 billion and more selling tour, the song was taken from the 2020 Folklore album. The tour began on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona, and ended on November 26 in São Paulo, Brazil in 2023.
The Eras Tour movie, which has earned over $262 million globally since its October 11, 2023 release, was filmed over three nights during the singer’s more than week-long engagement at LA’s SoFi Stadium last summer. Iger, who went undercover as Swiftie, attended at least one of the performances.
Disney was at the house with Taylor Swift quite a few times before that.
The low-budget film Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, which Swift acted in, directed, and produced, debuted on Disney+ back in 2020. The 17 songs from Swift’s Folklore album were played live in the documentary, which had its premiere on November 25 and was centered in the Hudson Valley.
Swift has collaborated with Disney-owned Searchlight Pictures on her first feature film as a filmmaker. The project, which was revealed in December 2023, is based on a Swift original script that the firm would produce.
