Denmark vs. Portugal National Football Team: Best Football Player When Cristiano Ronaldo set a Guinness World Record for the most victories in international football, he created history. Prior to Portugal’s match against Denmark in the second leg of their UEFA Nations League quarterfinal at Estadio Jose Alvalade, the Portuguese forward was given this esteemed honor.
In the process, he broke the record for the most victories in international football history, surpassing Sergio Ramos, his former teammate from Real Madrid.

A Guinness World Record plaque was given to Cristiano Ronaldo, the player with the most international victories, before to the game. The 40-year-old has won 133 games in 218 appearances for Portugal, the most of any player in international football. However, Ronaldo received recognition for his 132nd victory, which at the time was a world record.
After missing an early penalty, Ronaldo recovered to play a pivotal role in his team’s comeback. Despite having to watch extra time from the bench, he kept the audience motivated as Portugal eventually managed to overcome Denmark’s resistance.
Portugal qualified for the Nations League semifinals with a 5-2 victory over Denmark in extra time. Ronaldo scored later in the game after missing a penalty early on.
Fullback Joakim Maehle had left the team to attend the birth of his child, and the Danes were ahead 1-0 after Rasmus Hojlund’s goal in Thursday’s first leg in Copenhagen. His replacement, Patrick Dorgu, gave Portugal an early present by bundling over Ronaldo to give up a penalty in the third minute.
Ronaldo took the spot kick himself, but Denmark’s goalie, Kasper Schmeichel, prevailed in the mental struggle and deftly positioned himself to his left to block the Portuguese captain.
Ronaldo came close to making apologies in the 17th minute when he slipped in at the far post to head a Nuno Mendes ball toward goal, but Schmeichel beat him once more.
Joachim Andersen, a Danish defender, finished the game with an own goal in the 38th minute after Ronaldo earned a corner, giving Portugal the lead.
