Daniel Craig and Ruth Nega are Broadway’s next Macbeth
Directly from the long-standing role of James Bond, Daniel will play another learned character named Craig Macbeth. Tony will appear opposite Craig as Ruth Nega (loving) Lady Macbeth, starring in Sam Gold’s upcoming 15-week Broadway production of the play Shakespeare.
“Daniel is not only a great movie actor, but also a great playwright,” says Macbeth producer Barbara Broccoli, who also creates the James Bond movie franchise. “I am thrilled that he will support the return of Broadway with his debut in Broadway with the highly talented Ruth Nega and under the expert guidance of Sam Gold.”
Macbeth’s stage life, of course, goes back to its establishment. However, the first Broadway production of Bard’s play dates back to 1768. The most recent Broadway production featured Ethan Hawke and Anne-Marie Duff as a bad consulting couple in 2013. A few months ago, Alan Cumming performed a one-person play on a large stage.
As Macbeth’s story returns to the stage, she returns to the silver screen this year with an adaptation of her upcoming film, The Single Coen Brothers – Joel Coen by starring Denzel Washington and Francis McDormand. Across the lake, James McArdle (Mare of Easttown) and Saurse Ronan will play the fateful couple in the Yael Farber-held production at the Almeida Theater in London.
Craig had previously worked with Gold on Shakespeare’s Othello’s Iago’s off-Broadway production. He made his Broadway debut against Hugh Jackman in the 2009 production of Keith Huff’s A Steady Rain. Shortly before the outbreak of the epidemic worldwide, Nega served as the Danish royal title at St. Anne’s Warehouse in Hamlet. The Oscar nominee debuted on Broadway with Macbeth.
Announcements from other artists are forthcoming. Macbeth will begin previews on April 2, 2022, before opening April 2 at the Lyceum Theater.
