China’s Upcoming World’s Highest Bridge: Will Reduce Travel Time From 1 Hour to 1 Minute

China will unveil the record-breaking Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in June. The bridge spans two miles across a huge canyon. The project, which will cost 216 million pounds (about Rs 2200 crore), will cut the journey time from an hour to only one minute. The bridge, which is more than 200 meters tall and three times heavier than the Eiffel Tower, is an impressive engineering achievement.

Chinese politician Zhang Shenglin said, “This super project spanning the “Earth’s crack” will showcase China’s engineering capabilities and boost Guizhou’s goal of becoming a world-class tourist destination.”

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is a component of the Shantian-Puxi Expressway, a 190-kilometer infrastructure project designed to improve economic and transportation connections in Guizhou province, which is among the most mountainous areas of China. In addition to being a technical wonder, the bridge represents China’s quick expansion and dedication to tying rural areas with metropolitan cities.

Bridging Innovation & Tourism

The bridge is anticipated to grow into a popular tourist destination in addition to its usefulness. Future designs include for a glass-bottomed promenade, residential viewing places, and what might turn out to be the tallest bungee jump in the world. The goal of these characteristics is to increase tourism in Guizhou, which is already well-known for its breathtaking natural scenery and striking gorges.

The bridge’s near-complete suspension above the main gorge below makes it much more spectacular. To help connect rural areas, over half of the 100 tallest bridges in the world are located in the same region of China as this one.

China’s tallest bridge, which is 1,854 feet tall, was constructed in Beipanjiang in 2016.
