Apple Pal launched a repair program for its AirPods Pro wireless earbuds last year, as some units were affected by the problem of “cracking or static sounds”. The company has now extended the AirPods Pro repair program with additional year coverage.
When the event was originally announced in October 2020, Apple had said it would cover the affected AirPods Pro for two years after the unit’s first retail sale. In other words, early customers will be able to replace their earbuds for free until October 2021, as the AirPods Pro was introduced in 2019.
Earlier this week, the AirPods Pro Repair program webpage was updated with a new disclaimer, stating that the program “covers the affected AirPods Pro for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit.” The change was first noticed by a Reddit user on R / AirPods, and was confirmed by Apple Pal on the company’s website.
According to Apple Paul, the affected AirPods Pro units may suffer from cracking or static sound and Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected. If you notice any of these issues in your AirPods Pro, you should contact Apple to take them to the Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
Apple will replace the affected AirPods Pro for free. The AirPods Pro will be inspected by technicians before being replaced, the company said. According to Apple Pal, the affected units were built before October 2020. If you have a problem with your AirPods, you have three years to provide free service from the date of purchase.
