The Nearby Places search feature on Android is being removed from the Phone by Google dialer app, which is not surprising. Google declared the modification at the start of February, and it is currently in effect.
The Phone by Google app no longer offers the option to look up businesses. Users can now search for contacts only—not places—instead of places—by using the new “Search contacts” option that Google placed to the app’s top.
Additionally, it appears that the settings for “Nearby Places” have been completely gone, which makes sense considering that this function was meant to leverage your location to find locations.
The Nearby Places search was eliminated because, in Google’s words, “only a very small number of people use this feature.” The “vast majority of users go to Google Search or Maps when seeking business-related phone numbers,” according to Google as well.
The search engine behemoth announced that the feature will be eliminated “in the coming months” when it made public the update to the Phone by Google app. You should prepare to lose this feature very soon, if you haven’t already, as it appears that the most recent upgrade is making words into reality.
