The dates of Alien: Romulus’s physical and digital media releases have been announced. The eighth film in the venerable sci-fi horror series, directed by Fede Álvarez, centers on a group of young individuals who go after cryo equipment from a closed space station, only to run across the deadly Xenomorph in the process. Lead actor Cailee Spaeny leads the cast of Alien: Romulus, which also stars David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.
October 15th is when 20th Century Studios has revealed that Alien: Romulus will be available on VOD services Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. On that day, it will also be accessible digitally along with the original bundle as a two-movie deal honoring the 45th anniversary of Alien. On December 3, Romulus will be available for physical media distribution on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
What The Home Media Release Dates Mean For Alien: Romulus
The official declaration of the film’s digital and physical release dates indicates that the theatrical run of Alien: Romulus is finally coming to an end. After only six weeks of release, the film has become a smash, collecting $342.1 million worldwide on a $80 million budget, and ranking No. 10 on the list of the highest-grossing films of the year thus far. As of this writing, it is also the franchise’s second-highest grossing film.
But theater runs do have an end, and the fact that these dates have been announced suggests that Disney, the parent company of 20th Century Studios, and the studio are confidence in the success the film has achieved thus far in theaters. Furthermore, given that it will have to compete with highly successful recent films like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and the soon-to-be blockbuster Joker: Folie à Deux, it doesn’t appear likely to climb back up the charts.
Take On The Alien: Romulus Home Release Dates
Even though Alien: Romulus’s box office chances could be fading, the movie’s home release might be well-timed to offer the picture two more boosts before the year is up. The movie will be able to benefit from Halloween, when horror films typically rule the digital charts, thanks to its October 15 VOD release date. The holiday shopping season and the physical media release date align well, so 20th Century Studios may benefit financially from both releases.
