Suzuki’s First-Ever EV, The e Vitara With Electric 4WD System, Will Be Introduced in India in 2025

Ahead of its public debut in India and other international markets in 2025, Suzuki showcased the Suzuki e Vitara, its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) with production specifications, at an event in Milan, Italy. It is based on the eVX prototype, which debuted at the 2023 Auto Expo and is constructed on a brand-new electric platform. A single-speed electric drive transmission, lithium iron-phosphate batteries, and an electric 4WD ALLGRIP-e system are included with the EV.

Suzuki e Vitara will debut in India in January 2025 at the Bharat Mobility Show. In the spring of 2025, it will be produced at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat assembly factory for both domestic and international export. Europe, India, and Japan will all have access to the EV.

Features, Powertrain, and Range of the Suzuki e Vitara

The Europe-spec e Vitara has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm and dimensions of 4,275 x 1,800 x 1,635 mm. The EV weighs 1,702 kg at the curb, has a 180 mm ground clearance, and a 5.2 mm turning radius. Both 2WD and 4WD drive system options will be available, however the latter is reportedly only available on versions with greater battery specifications. Known as ALLGRIP-e, the 4WD system has two separate eAxles in the front and back. Suzuki claims that by applying brakes to spinning tires and transferring motor torque to the opposing tire, a feature known as “Trail mode,” the e Vitara can effortlessly traverse tough terrain.

In order to provide agile acceleration while the vehicle is at a stop and quick acceleration when overtaking from low to high speeds, the eAxle itself combines the motor and inverter. An electric drive gearbox with a single speed is coupled to the EV’s motor. It also has front and rear vented discs.

The vehicle’s underfloor has been redesigned, and the members have been removed in favor of the main floor in order to maximize the battery capacity. There will be two different lithium iron-phosphate battery pack configurations available for the e Vitara: 49kWh and 61kWh. While the latter has a 128kW output at the front wheels, the former can only deliver 106kW of power at most. There is an extra 48kW power output at the back of the 4WD vehicle with the 61kWh battery pack. According to Suzuki, the 4WD version can deliver up to 300Nm of torque, while the 2WD models can only deliver 189Nm.
