At Goodwood Festival Of Speed, Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro Makes Its Premiere With 600+ Horsepower
Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GT 63 Pro 4MATIC+, the newest member of the AMG GT family. To improve on-track performance, the coupe, which made its premiere at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, has undergone significant improvements to its cooling system, aerodynamics, and powerplant. Active-aero components on the GT 63 Pro help to maintain it on the ground and increase stability on any given course.
The two-door sports coupe Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4MATIC+ is meant to be positioned as a performance model within the GT family. Targeting enthusiasts who are “looking for exceptional driving dynamics,” the GT 63 Pro boasts better cooling, responsiveness, and performance. More downforce is produced via active aerodynamic components on the coupe’s front fascia and underbelly.
GT 63 Pro: Design and Active Aero
Carbon fiber air deflectors placed around the larger side air intakes give the GT 63 Pro’s front end an aggressive appearance. The front apron, located beneath the grille, has the AIRPANEL active air control system, which adjusts to lower aerodynamic lift by about 30 kg and improve steering response.
Additional air deflectors on the underside of the GT 63 Pro resemble those on the Mercedes-AMG ONE. By increasing underbody airflow and helping to further plant the car in the track, these deflectors aid in the creation of ground effect. The GT 63 Pro’s active aero and deflectors on the front panel work in tandem with the fixed rear wing to efficiently channel airflow, enhancing handling and performance while reducing rear-end lift by 15 kg.
Key features and engine of the GT 63 Pro
The AMG 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine that powers the GT 63 Pro can produce 612 bhp of power, which is 27 bhp more than the standard GT 63. With a peak torque of 850 Nm, the Pro coupe accelerates quickly, reaching 200 kmph in just 10.9 seconds. In 3.2 seconds, the GT 63 Pro achieves the standard 0-100 kmph time. Mercedes-AMG claims that the new coupe has an electronically limited peak speed of 317 kmph, though it’s unclear exactly where this limit is.
The vehicle has an AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension system and a nine-speed transmission mated to a V8 biturbo. This offers rear-axle steering and active roll stabilization that adjusts in real time to control body roll through the corners. The vehicle is equipped with an efficient all-wheel drive system that can divide power between the front and rear wheels based on the road conditions.
High-performance ceramic brakes and 21-inch forged wheels power the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4MATIC+. These are the largest ceramic brake discs that Mercedes-AMG currently offers straight from the factory. Mercedes-AMG placed a strong emphasis on airflow and cooling, which is evident in the two radiators that are housed in the two front wheel arches and help to cool the drivetrain. The transfer case, front and rear differentials, and two more top-mounted radiators are all actively cooled.
