Garfield and Furious Sail to the Top of the U.K. and Ireland Box Office
At the U.K. and Ireland box office, Sony’s “The Garfield Movie” and Warner Bros.’ “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” had a successful long May bank holiday weekend.
Comscore figures show that “The Garfield Movie” opened with £2.1 million ($2.7 million) and “Furiosa” with £1.9 million ($2.5 million).
Paramount’s “IF” brought in £1.6 million on its second weekend of release, for a total of £4.6 million. Disney’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” brought in £1.5 million during its third weekend of business, for a grand total of £10.4 million.
Universal’s “The Fall Guy” completed the top five, earning £752,683 over the course of its fourth weekend, for a total of £9.5 million.
Two more debuts were included in the top 10. “Turbo,” a Malayalam film from Dream Entertainment, debuted at eighth place with £152,295, while “Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In,” a film from Trinity Asia, launched in ninth place with £106,919.
Disney’s “Young Woman and the Sea,” which tells the tale of competition swimmer Trudy Ederle—who became the first woman to swim the English Channel in 1926—will be released this coming weekend. Daisy Ridley, Lily James, and Stephen Graham are among the cast members.
“Sting,” which centers on 12-year-old rebel Harlotte who discovers a little spider in her dilapidated apartment complex, will debut on Studiocanal. She keeps it in a jar, but it doesn’t take long for it to grow at an enormous rate and become bloodthirsty. Charlotte and her family are forced to engage in a last-ditch battle for their life against a hungry spider that has a craving for human flesh as their neighbors start to vanish.
Bertrand Bonello’s 2023 Venice player, “The Beast,” from Vertigo Releasing, follows a world in which emotions are no longer seen as threats because artificial intelligence rules; in order to eradicate them, Gabrielle must purify her DNA by returning to her past lives, where she discovers both a terrible feeling and a great love. The cast is led by Léa Seydoux and George MacKay.
Munro is launching “Hard Miles,” a film based on the story of Greg Townsend and the Ridgeview Academy cycling team, in which a prison social worker puts together a team of young criminals and leads them on a life-changing 1,000-mile cycle.
Sony is releasing the Peccadillo 2023 Rotterdam title “A House in Jerusalem” and the anime “Haikyu!!: The Dumpster Battle.”
The sports drama “Mr & Mrs. Mahi” from Zee Studios International is being released in Bollywood this weekend, and Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” is being re-released in honor of its 20th anniversary.
