Toyota is Recalling the New Prius Due to Potential Rear Door Opening While Driving
A short circuit may cause the new Prius’ rear doors to unexpectedly fly open, prompting Toyota to issue a recall for the vehicle. In the US, it affects about 55,000 Prius and Prius Prime cars from 2023 and 2024.
The carmaker claims that if the rear doors aren’t closed, water can short the electrical latches, causing the doors to fly open. They might open in the event of an accident or while the vehicle is in motion.
By early June, owners should be on the lookout for correspondence from Toyota regarding the recall. Toyota will resolve the matter by swapping out the rear door opener switches on the left and right for new, better-looking models.
The carmaker is requesting that consumers in the US and Canada turn on the function that locks the doors when the driver puts the vehicle in park until a repair is available. According to the business, in the case of a short circuit, this will help keep the doors from opening. Approximately 211,000 Toyota vehicles, including those in Asia and Japan, are being recalled globally.
For the 2023 model year, Toyota completely redesigned the Prius, transforming the ostentatious fuel sipper into a chic and elegant hybrid sedan. Even though the Prius is a household name for Toyota, sales of the car aren’t very high despite the facelift. They have increased by 138.6 percent in the first quarter of 2024.
