Kia is Recalling Over 427K Cars that have the Potential to Roll Away While in Park
For the possibility of moving while in park, Kia is recalling over 427,000 cars in the United States.
All Telluride cars built between 2020 and 2023, as well as certain versions made in 2024, are covered by the alert published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to the NHTSA, the cars’ right front driveshaft and intermediate shaft “may not be fully engaged due to suspected improper assembly by the supplier.”
Over the course of time, the “partial engagement can cause damage to the intermediate shaft splines” that could “result in unintended vehicle movement while in park if the parking brake is not engaged,”
Recalls were started after a “review of vehicle and supplier production records,” authorities said.
According to Kia, there haven’t been any collisions, injuries, or deaths associated with this problem.
Starting on May 15, mail notifications will be sent to all affected owners regarding the recall. Owners will receive instructions to take their cars to a Kia dealer so that updated software may be installed. This will prohibit the car from moving accidentally when the gear shift is in park and the engine is off, or when the car is stopped in any gear with the doors open.
According to Kia, the intermediate shaft will be replaced if damage is discovered following the repair. Additionally, in accordance with Kia’s General Reimbursement Plan, which was submitted on May 10, 2022, it will compensate owners for repair costs previously incurred.
Clients seeking details regarding their particular car will be directed to either a Kia dealer or the company’s customer care center.
