Royals will re-sign Zack Greinke

Zack Greinke has been re-signed by the Royals. Greinke signed a one-year contract with the Royals this past season. Over the course of 137 innings, he made 26 starts and had one of the lowest walk rates in baseball. Throughout the offseason, the Royals were said to be interested in bringing him back, but negotiations were halted in December due to an expanding free agent market. The amount of money that the Royals were willing to guarantee Greinke at his age was the issue.

The right-hander, who is 39 years old, will likely join Brady Singer and Jordan Lyles in the rotation. Between Ryan Yarbrough, Daniel Lynch, Kris Bubic, Brad Keller, Jonathan Heasley, and Max Castillo, the final two spots in the rotation will probably be up for grabs.

In his 19-year MLB career, Greinke has 223 wins and 118 strikeouts short of 3,000. From 2004 to 2010, he spent the first seven years of his career in Kansas City, where he won the 2009 Cy Young Award.
