The trailer for Drishyam 2 shows Vijay Salgaonkar doing everything he can to protect his family seven years after they were involved in a murder case.
On Monday, the long-awaited trailer for Drishyam 2 was released. Ajay Devgn will reprise his role as Vijay Salgaonkar, who is attempting to bury a crime — literally and metaphorically — in order to protect his family in the sequel to the 2015 thriller. During the trailer, however, the narrator mentions how truth is like a seed that can never be buried.
The sequel trailer begins with Vijay and his family learning that the seven-year-old case has been reopened. As Akshay Khanna’s character, the investigating officer, enters the scene, the cloud of suspicion descends on the Salgaonkar family. Tabu reprises her role as the bereaved mother, admitting that she underestimated the ‘fourth fail’ the last time. She includes a powerful moment.
The 2.24-minute video also provides plenty of fodder for crime drama fans, as the two parties compete to outdo each other. Drishyam 2, like the first, plays with the ‘2nd and 3rd October’ dates, creating an instant connection with the audience. We see Vijay confessing near the end. However, the creators have not revealed whether he will accept his crime.
The cast has been kept, with Shriya Saran and Ishita Dutta delivering strong performances. Ajay Devgn appears fitter and younger, while Akshay Khanna’s character intrigues. However, Tabu’s performance as the injured lioness will make you sit up and take notice.
Ajay Devgn had begun promotional activities for Drishyam 2 in an unusual manner. He had previously posted a photo of a few props from the first film. The post was a photo of the restaurant, bus, and movie theatre bills that his character, Vijay Salgaonkar, uses as an alibi to avoid punishment.
Drishyam 2, like its predecessor, is a remake of the acclaimed Malayalam film of the same name, which starred Mohanlal. The Malayalam film, directed by Jeethu Joseph, followed Georgekutty (Mohanlal) and his family’s struggle after the son of the Inspector General of Police is killed.
The sequel, which was released on Amazon Prime Video last year, followed Georgekutty’s transformation from a cable TV service provider to an aspiring film producer, even as the family dealt with their past.
The sequel to the Hindi version is directed by Abhishek Pathak and produced by Viacom18 Studios, Gulshan Kumar, T-Series, and Panorama Studios. Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, and Krishan Kumar produced the film. Drishyam 2 will be released in theatres on November 18.
