43K Ford SUVs have been Recalled due to Fuel Leaks, however the Problem is Not Fixed by Repair
Due to a fuel leak issue, Ford has announced a recall of about 43,000 Bronco and Escape SUVs.
According to Ford documents made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue is caused by fuel injector cracking, which may lead to the buildup of gasoline or vapor close to sources of ignition. The likelihood of a fire may rise if something occurs.
As a result of the issue, Ford has so far received five reports of under-hood fires and fourteen warranty replacements of fuel injectors. There have been no documented accidents or injuries linked to the fuel injector problem.
Ford claims that dealers will install a tube to direct gasoline flow away from hot surfaces and toward the ground rather than replacing the fuel injectors. In order to identify a decline in fuel injection system pressure, dealers will also update the engine control software. The software is said to limit engine power, disable the high pressure fuel pump, and lower engine compartment temperatures if a decrease occurs.
According to Ford, the problem affects 1% of the SUVs and is a follow-up to a recall that was issued in 2022 for the same fuel injector issue. An estimated 634,000 SUVs were impacted by the 2022 recall. The business continued by saying that it has tested the most recent remedy on SUVs that were part of the earlier recall and that it is not aware of any issues with the repair.
A few 2022 and 2023 Bronco Sport SUVs and 2022 Escape SUVs are included in the recall. The SUVs that are affected all have 1.5-liter engines. Notification of the recall was sent to owners of recalled SUVs on April 1.
