2025 Ford Equator Sport Gets Redesigned, Drops Bulky Grille in China

Just three years after the original Equator Sport’s launch, Ford’s joint venture with Jiangling Motors (JMC) has introduced the redesigned vehicle in China. The Equator Sport is expected to launch a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain option soon in addition to an updated exterior that attempts to stay current with design trends.

The Ford Equator Sport is basically a shorter and marginally sportier version of the Equator, and is marketed as the Territory in places outside of China. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China featured both SUVs in their rankings.

The new front end is the most notable aspect of this mid-cycle change. The old model’s large grille has been replaced with a black panel that visibly connects the new LED headlights to the bumper intakes. Although the tailgate and side profile haven’t changed much, the lower rear fascia has a more streamlined appearance. Ford has also unveiled two brand-new exterior colors, Cactus Gray and Wilderness Green, as well as new wheel options, including the 20-inch alloys.

Measuring 4,685 mm (184.5 inches), the redesigned SUV is significantly longer than the outgoing model by 55 mm (2.2 inches). The wheelbase, which measures 2,726 mm (107.3 inches), is the only other dimension that has not changed.

New trim options are the biggest alteration, with interior improvements being less noticeable. The Equator Sport now has an improved 10-speaker audio system in addition to its two 12.3-inch digital displays.

The 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine, which is a carryover and turbocharged, produces 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque and 168 horsepower (125 kW / 170 PS) at launch for the Ford Equator Sport. Power is supplied exclusively to the front wheels using a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In addition to the non-electrified model, Ford is set to release a plug-in hybrid version that will be powered by a battery pack obtained from CATL and have a combined output of 215 horsepower (160 kW / 218 PS).

The price of the Equator Sport has not yet been revealed. The pricing range for the current model is ¥126,800 to ¥165,500, or roughly $18,100 to $23,500 depending on the current exchange rate.
