2025 Audi A3 TFSI e PHEV Has Up To 268 Horsepower And 89 Miles Of Electric Range
With the introduction of the new A3 Sportback TFSI e in Europe, a plug-in hybrid that offers a greater all-electric range and more power and performance than its predecessor, the 2025 Audi A3 family has enlarged. Prices in Europe start at €44,200 (~$48,200) and €47,700 (~$52,000) for the 40 TFSI e and 45 TFSI e versions, respectively.
A new 1.5-liter TFSI evo2 engine, which has a greater compression ratio than the previous 1.4-liter TFSI engine, powers both versions. In the 40 TFSI e, this engine can produce 148 horsepower (110 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque; in the 45 TFSI e, the same numbers increase to 174 horsepower (130 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm). The six-speed S tronic transmission’s housing houses an electric motor that powers the front wheels in addition to the engine. It generates 114 horsepower (85 kW) and 243 lb-ft (330 Nm) of torque by itself. In the 40 TFSI e, it produces 201 horsepower (150 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm), and in the 45 TFSI e, it produces 268 horsepower (200 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm).
The flagship model of the plug-in hybrid A3 Sportback accelerates to 237 km/h (147 mph) in 6.3 seconds, while the entry-level model reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.4 seconds and continues to 225 km/h (140 mph).
A 25.7 kWh battery pack made up of four modules of 96 prismatic cells, which stores over 50% more energy than before, powers the electric motor. This indicates that both variants are capable of 143 km (89 miles) of pure electric travel.
There are numerous driving and powertrain modes to choose from, much like with other plug-in hybrid models. The paddle shifters can be used to change the amount of brake regeneration, and the car always starts up in electric mode. Additionally, both versions offer a power boost feature that activates when the engine is in auto hybrid mode and the DCT is in S mode. For a maximum of eight seconds, this feature adds 94 horsepower (70 kW) to the 45 TFSI e and up to 18 seconds of additional power to the 40 TFSI e.
Because they are the first plug-in hybrids from the German automaker to offer DC rapid charging at up to 50 kW, the new Audi A3 Sportback TFSI e models are significant as well. This feature enables the battery pack to be charged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.
