2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Aims High With 600 HP and a 300-Mile Range
Finally, Jeep is introducing its first electric car to the American market. This new SUV, known as the Wagoneer S, was initially unveiled in September 2022 and is scheduled to go on sale later this year as a fully equipped Launch Edition vehicle with an all-wheel drive system and 600 horsepower.
Dimensions and Alignment
The Wagoneer S, which is smaller than the Grand Cherokee, has a sleeker, lower profile than any other Jeep model. This SUV, which spans the compact and mid-size classes, has two rows and five seats. There is a unique twist to the design cues found elsewhere in the Jeep series. For example, the seven-slot grille highlights lighting elements between the slots rather than having any real air intakes. The liftgate has a steeply sloped angle, and an intriguing spoiler completes the rear end; according to Jeep, its drag coefficient is 0.29.
With a two-spoke steering wheel and wall-to-wall screens that include the digital gauge cluster, the central infotainment display, and a passenger-side display, the interior design is reminiscent of the Grand Wagoneer full-size SUVs. The Launch Edition comes equipped with a head-up display, a comprehensive suite of driver-assist technologies, heated and cooled front and rear seats, and a McIntosh audio system as standard equipment. The only available options are a towing kit (with a maximum weight of 3400 pounds) and an interior made of red leather.
Details of the Powertrain and Range
The Wagoneer S Launch Edition’s only available powertrain option is a 600-hp configuration with front and rear electric motors. Jeep claims that it will accelerate to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Lower-output electric versions should eventually be added to the lineup. It is also believed that the Wagoneer S will eventually be available with the Hurricane inline-six engine. This is not shocking, considering the STLA Large platform can support ICE powertrains, such as the one used in the new Dodge Charger.
Although official EPA estimates are not yet available, this vehicle is claimed to have a range of more than 300 miles. Although the battery has a 100.5 kWh capacity, Jeep claims that its useable capacity will be comparable to the 93.9 kWh usable capacity of the Charger Daytona EV. According to Jeep, it will take 23 minutes for it to fully charge from 20% to 80% on a DC fast-charger.
Cost and Accessibility
The $71,995 Wagoneer S Launch Edition is now accepting reservations; deliveries are scheduled to begin later this year.
